ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP TO A CLOSE.

The Gozo Motocross Championship 2022 fuelled by Enemed came to a victorious close on Sunday 8th May.


Four of our most challenged riders were crowned champions in each of their respective classes.





Steve Xuereb continued to dominate, celebrating his well-merited victory as champion in Class A and overall Gozitan Champion 2022. This is Xuereb's 4th championship and his 3rd in a row. For this achievement, he was also awarded a cheque of 500 Euro for hitting his third win since 2019.

Maltese rider Biuren Grima entered the championship like a whirlwind storm. He held on to first and second positions throughout, becoming champion in class B.

Class C was challenged to the very end as Joseph Gauci and Michael Vonbrockdorff competed for first position with the minimum number of points between them. In the end, Gauci celebrated his win adn the championship.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Jake Camilleri is crowned Champion of Class D, celebrating his win on his very first competing year.





Here are the winners of the day:

Class A 1st place - Steve Xuereb 2nd place - Mario Cauchi 3rd place - Jorn Stellini

Class B 1st place - Joseph Bigeni 2nd place - Biuren Grima 3rd place - Robert Spiteri

Class C 1st place - John Attard 2nd place - William Sant 3rd place - Nicholas Lee

Class D 1st place - Antoni Said 2nd place - Jake Camilleri 3rd place - Justin Borg

Minister for Gozo, Hon. Clint Camilleri presented trophies to the Champions. He thanked the committee for the dedicated contribution towards this sport and congratulated the winners. He promised that the Ministry will continue to support and work towards building the best future for Gozitan motocross and its athletes especially the young riders.

On Sunday, the GMA also welcomed two British motocross veterans - Nicholas Lee and Jason McCabe who competed with local riders in the heats of the day. They congratulated the organisation and promised that they would be back !

James Camilleri, GMA treasurer presented momentums designed by Etienne Micallef to each and every rider.


The Frank Bruno Award 2021, designed by Frank and produced by Joe Attard at Artex was awarded to Mario Cauchi, for his determination, discipline and respect for motocross shown throughout this season.

Meanwhile, Antoni Said was awarded The Most Promising Rider 2022.

The winners of the day were presented trophies by Grima Service station and Grima Fuels. The winners were also given Ravenol products.

The association paid tribute to two of the GMA founders - the late Gorg Xuereb known as 'Gorg Brunu' and the late Vince Bonello known as 'Censu Splot'. They were remembered for their hard work, dedication and sense of fun back in the 1980's. Their determination and perseverance has been an asset to GMA and all the riders of today.

The association would like to thank all those who work voluntarily and tirelessly to make Motocross one of the best sports in Gozo.

Meanwhile GMA would like to wish Sven Zarb a very speedy recovery following his unfortunate incident on the track. Get well soon Zven!

Following some merited summer rest, the GMA will be in 'full speed ahead' mode in September 2023 .
